Merzouga Desert Tour – 8 Days

This Morocco Tour focusses on the Sahara Desert of Merzouga. Discover the nomadic lifestyle, make a camel ride and sleep in an authentic bivouac watching the stars and a magnificent sunset. Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, Morocco tour starts early. Departure to Telouet via the mountain of High Atlas passing through the Tizi n‘Tichka pass reaching 2.260 m, visit of the Kasbah of Pacha Glaoui in Telouet, lunch in the place. Afternoon we continue the tour to Ait Ben Haddou via the Ounila valley with its berber villages. Next stop is Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Kelaa Mgouna – Roses Valley – Dades Gorges – Toudra Gorges

Leaving Ouarzazate around 8:30 am towards Skoura where we will have a quick 20 minutes visit of the Amredhyle Kasbah, one of the wonders of the southern Route of the Thousand Kasbahs. Continuing our journey through the Valley of the Roses, we cross 50km off-road on valley tracks. Ait Youl Kasbah. Before heading Boumalne, we will lunch on top of Dades gorges, reaching Tinghir and 20 km after, its fabulous views, and the Toudra gorges canyons. Dinner and over night in hotel.

Day 3: Toudra Gorges – Tinejdad – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga

In the morning walk around the Tinghir palm plantations. We will drive to Tinejdad to have lunch and visit Touroug palm plantations reaching Erfoud town to visit a local fossil craft workshop. Continuing to the fascinating dunes of Erg Chebbi, the dunes of Merzouga. We now switch from our 4×4 to camels, and you will be taken on a camel ride on the dunes to enjoy the sunset and spend the night in an authentic nomad bivouac. Dinner and over night in a bivouac.

Day 4: Merzouga – Khamlia – Taouz – Ouzina – Ramlia – Mharech

Early in the morning you have the chance to enjoy the sunrise, after we will return on camels to the bottom of the dunes. After breakfast, departure for the village of Khamlia, the village of the Gnaoua with their traditional desert music.  Short stop for a tea with ment at the Gnaoua house, departure for Taouz, Ziz Wadi by the track of Paris-Dakar passing a small village lost in the desert of Ouzina (lunch in this place) and Ramlia, the tour leads us to Mharech. Dinner and over night in hotel.

Day 5: Mharech – Zagora

After the breakfast, departure for Zagora by the track of Paris-Dakar while crossing desert landscapes, hamadas and nomads living there in their tents. Dinner and over night in hotel in Zagora.

Day 6: Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Chegaga

After the breakfast, departure for Tamgroute and visit of Zaouïa, the old Koranic library, the craftsmen of pottery and a Kasbah underground; then we continue towards Mhamid and have lunch in this place. In the afternoon we will take a track which carries out towards the dunes of Chegaga to see the sun set and spend the night in the Bivouac. Dinner and over night in a bivouac.

Day 7: Chegaga – Foum Zguit – Taznakhte – Ouarzazate

Wake up early in the morning to see the sunrise on the dunes. After the breakfast, departure for Foum Zguit passing by nomads who live in tents, the dry lake of Iriqui and desert landscapes with Cassia plants (Picnic for lunch in the place). Continuation to Ouarzazate via Taznakhte. Dinner and over night in hotel.

Day 8: Ouarzazate – Marrakech

After the breakfast departure to visit the town of Ouarzazate. The Kasbah of Taourirt and the cinema studio; then drive to Marrakech by the Tizi n‘Tichka pass.
